Cadiz is a small village in Harrison County. It is the county seat and has a population of 3,051 as of 2020. Cadiz is located about 20 miles southwest of Steubenville and has an area of 8.94 square miles. Cadiz was founded in 1803 and named after Cádiz, Spain. It has a rich history of being a stop on the Underground Railroad and a birthplace of actor Clark Gable. Some of the places of interest in Cadiz are the Boss Bison Ranch, where visitors can feed and interact with bison; the Clark Gable Museum & Foundation, where visitors can learn about the life and career of the famous star; and the Vineyard 22, where visitors can enjoy wine tasting and live music. The largest employers in Cadiz are the Harrison County government, the MarkWest Complex, which processes natural gas from the Marcellus Shale, and the Harrison Community Hospital.
