Madison County is located in central Ohio, bordered by Franklin and Pickaway Counties to the east, Fayette County to the south, Champaign and Clark Counties to the west, and Union County to the north. As of the 2020 census, the population was 43,824. The county seat is London. Madison County is part of the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county was named for James Madison, the fourth President of the United States. It was originally settled by European Americans in the early 19th century, mostly by migrants from Virginia and Pennsylvania. The economy of Madison County is diverse, with industries ranging from manufacturing to healthcare. The county is home to several large companies, including The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. Madison County is home to several state parks, including Ohio Caverns State Park and Buckeye Trail State Park. The county is also home to the Madison County Historical Society Museum.
