Belmont County is a county in the eastern part of the state, bordering West Virginia. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 66,497 people. The county seat is St. Clairsville, and the largest city is Martins Ferry. The county was created in 1801 and named after the French word for "beautiful mountain". Some of the places of interest in Belmont County are the museums that showcase its history and culture, such as the Belmont County Heritage Museum and the National Imperial Glass Museum. The county also has scenic parks and lakes, such as Barkcamp State Park and Piedmont Lake. The economy of Belmont County is service-oriented, but it also relies on farming, coal and steel industries. Some of the largest employers in the county are East Ohio Regional Hospital, Belmont Correctional Institution, and Murray Energy Corporation.
