Defiance County is located in northwest Ohio, bordered by Williams County to the north, Henry County to the east, Putnam County to the southeast, Paulding County to the south, and the state of Indiana to the west. It was founded in 1845 and is named after the Defiance, a steamboat that was used to transport people and goods on the Maumee and Auglaize rivers. The county seat is Defiance. According to the 2020 census, the population of Defiance County was 38,286. The county has a total area of 416 square miles. Agriculture is an important industry in Defiance County, with the county being home to many farms that produce corn, soybeans, wheat, and other crops. The county is also home to several small towns and villages, including Defiance, Hicksville, and Ney.
