Elyria is a city in Lorain County with a population of about 54,000 people. It is located about 23 miles southwest of Cleveland and is part of the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. It has a diverse and rich cultural heritage, with many ethnic groups and traditions represented in its history and present. Some of the cultural attractions in Elyria include the Elyria Arts Council, which organizes various events and programs to promote local artists and art education; the Elyria Historical Association, which preserves and showcases the city's past through exhibits and tours; and the Elyria Public Library System, which offers a wide range of resources and services to the community.

Elyria also has many natural and recreational sites that attract visitors and residents alike. The city is home to Cascade Park, the largest and oldest park in Lorain County, which features a scenic waterfall, hiking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds. Another popular destination is Black River Reservation, a 570-acre park that offers fishing, boating, biking, and wildlife viewing along the Black River. Elyria also has several historic landmarks, such as the Hickories Museum, a restored mansion that displays Victorian-era furnishings and artifacts; the Lorain County Courthouse, a neoclassical building that dates back to 1881; and the Ely Square Fountain, a symbol of the city's founding in 1817.
