Franklin County is located in central Ohio, bordered by Delaware County to the north, Licking and Fairfield Counties to the east, Pickaway County to the south, and Madison and Union Counties to the west. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,323,807, making it the most populous county in Ohio. Its county seat is Columbus, the state capital and most populous city in Ohio. The county was named for Benjamin Franklin. Franklin County is part of the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is the home of The Ohio State University, one of the largest universities in the United States. The county is also home to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Columbus Clippers, a minor league baseball team. The economy of Franklin County is diverse, with industries ranging from healthcare and education to retail and manufacturing. The county is home to several large companies, including Nationwide, American Electric Power, and L Brands.
