Mansfield is the largest city in the Mid-Ohio region and the county seat of Richland County and has a population of about 47,500 people.
The city is known as "The Fun Center of Ohio" because of its many attractions and arts venues. Some of the popular places to visit in Mansfield are the Richland Carousel District, which features a hand-carved wooden carousel and various shops and restaurants; the Renaissance Theatre, which hosts Broadway shows, concerts, and other events; the Ohio State Reformatory, which is a historic prison that was used as a filming location for The Shawshank Redemption; the Kingwood Center Gardens, which is a 47-acre estate with beautiful gardens and a mansion; and the Mansfield Art Center, which showcases local and regional artists . Mansfield also hosts several annual festivals and events, such as the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program, the Inkcarceration Music and Tattoo Festival, the Richland County Fair, and the Christmas at Kingwood.
