Pomeroy is a small village in Meigs County. It is located along the Ohio River, 21 miles south of Athens. According to the 2020 census, the population of Pomeroy was 1,573. Pomeroy was founded in 1804 by Samuel Pomeroy, a landowner from Massachusetts who developed the coal and salt industries in the area. Pomeroy is the county seat of Meigs County and has a historic courthouse that is built into the side of a cliff. Some of the places of interest in Pomeroy are the Meigs County Museum, the Big Bend Blues Bash, and the Pomeroy Sternwheel Regatta. The largest employers in the city are Meigs Local School District, Meigs County Courthouse, and Holzer Health System.
