Pickaway County is located in central Ohio, bordered by Fairfield and Hocking Counties to the east, Ross County to the south, Madison and Fayette Counties to the west, and Franklin County to the north. As of the 2020 census, the population was 58,539. The county seat is Circleville. Pickaway County is part of the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county was named for the Pekowi band of Shawnee Native Americans, who inhabited the area at the time of European settlement. The county was originally settled by European Americans in the late 18th century, mostly by migrants from Virginia and Pennsylvania. The economy of Pickaway County is diverse, with industries ranging from manufacturing to healthcare. The county is home to several large companies, including Kenworth Truck Company and the F.E. Myers & Bro. Co. Pickaway County is home to several state parks, including Pickaway County Park and Deer Creek State Park. The county is also home to the Pickaway County Historical Society Museum.
