Vinton County is a county in southeastern Ohio. It has a population of about 12,800 people, making it the least populous county in the state. The county seat is McArthur, a village named after a War of 1812 general. The county was formed in 1850 and named after Samuel Finley Vinton, a former US Representative from Ohio. Vinton County is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. It has several state parks, state forests, and a part of the Wayne National Forest. Some of the places of interest in the county are Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski State Forest, Moonville Tunnel, and Raccoon Creek Outfitters. The largest employers in the county are Vinton County Local Schools, Vinton County Health Department, and General Mills.
