Waverly is a city and the county seat of Pike County, located 14 miles south of Chillicothe. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 4,165. Waverly was formed in 1829, when the Ohio and Erie Canal was built along the west bank of the Scioto River. Some places of interest in Waverly include the Emmitt House, a historic hotel and restaurant that was built in 1861 and restored in 1995, the Lake White State Park, a scenic park with a lake, a dam, and a golf course, and the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library, which offers books, programs, and services for the community. Some of the largest employers in Waverly are the Pike County Government, the Adena Health System, and the Bristol Village Retirement Community.
