Youngstown is a city in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Mahoning County. It also extends into Trumbull County. The city has a population of 60,068, making it the 11th largest city in Ohio. Youngstown was founded by John Young, an early settler from New York, who established the first sawmill and gristmill in the area. Youngstown is known for its history of steel production, which declined in the 1970s and left the city with economic and social challenges. However, Youngstown has also been undergoing a revitalization of its downtown, culture, entertainment, and innovation sectors.
