Fayette County is located in southwestern part of the state and had a population of 28,951 as of the 2020 census. Its county seat is Washington Court House and it was named for the Marquis de Lafayette, a Frenchman who was an officer in the American Army in the Revolution, when it was established on March 1, 1810. The county is home to several parks and recreational areas, including the Fayette County Lake, the Fayette County Fairgrounds, and the Fayette County Historical Society. The county is also home to the Washington Court House City Schools.
