Hocking County is a county in the southeastern part of the state, with a population of 28,050 as of 2020. The county seat is Logan, a city of about 7,000 people. The county was formed in 1818 from parts of Athens, Fairfield, and Ross counties, and named after the Hocking River, which means "bottle river" in the Delaware Indian language. Some of the places of interest in Hocking County include the Hocking Hills State Park, which features caves, waterfalls, and hiking trails; the Columbus Washboard Company, which is the last remaining washboard manufacturer in the US; and the Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum, which displays over 3,400 pencil sharpeners. The largest employers in Hocking County are Logan-Hocking Local Schools, Hocking Valley Community Hospital, and General Mills.
