Montgomery County is located in southwestern Ohio, in the Miami Valley region of the state and is bordered by Greene County to the east, Butler and Warren Counties to the south, Preble County to the west, and Miami and Darke Counties to the north. It is the fourth most populous county in Ohio, with a population of around 537,309 people. The county seat is Dayton, which is the sixth most populous city in Ohio. The economy of Montgomery County is diverse, with a mix of manufacturing, healthcare, education, and service industries. The county is home to a number of major employers, including Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Dayton VA Medical Center, and the University of Dayton. The county is home to a number of cultural attractions, including the Dayton Art Institute, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, and Carillon Historical Park. There are also several parks and recreational areas in the county, including the Five Rivers MetroParks system. The county is known for its rich history, with a number of historic sites and landmarks, including the Paul Laurence Dunbar House, the Old Court House, and the Huffman Prairie Flying Field. The Wright brothers, who are credited with inventing the airplane, conducted some of their early flight experiments in the county.
