Muskingum County is a county in southeastern Ohio, with a population of 86,410 as of 2020. The county seat is Zanesville, which was once the state capital from 1810 to 1812. The county is named after the Muskingum River, which means "town by the river" or "elk's eye" in Delaware American Indian language. Some places of interest in the county are the Y Bridge, the Zane Grey Museum and the National Road-Zane Grey Museum. The largest employers in the county are retail and manufacturing businesses, such as Genesis HealthCare System, AK Steel and Avon.
